A CASE ILLUSTRATION AND LITERATURE REVIEW OF THYROID CANCER METASTASIS TO THE PITUITARY FOSSA

Abstract AIMS To understand the clinico-radiological and histopathological features, treatment strategies outcomes of patients with thyroid cancer metastasis to pituitary fossa. METHOD A 71-year-old man presented a few months’ history headaches, blurred vision, diplopia right sided ptosis. MRI head revealed 2.5cm fossa lesion distorting optic chiasm cavernous sinus invasion. It also showed frontal, temporal parieto-occipital lesions. CT thorax, abdomen pelvis found retrosternal goitre. An open biopsy occipital lobe metastatic papillary adenocarcinoma from gland. ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration goitre abnormal level IV lymph nodes Thy5. The patient subsequently underwent an endoscopic transsphenoidal resection tumour which was confirmed be carcinoma. date language unrestricted literature search performed across MEDLINE, Embase (via Ovid) Scopus databases using keywords relating metastasis, & glands, brain.
